The Sunlight State is offering sociology the cold shoulder. The Florida Board of Governors’ Academic and Trainee Affairs Committee on Nov. 9 voted to eliminate Concepts of Sociology from the list obviously the state’s public-college trainees can require to meet their general-education requirements. Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. presented the proposition. Like Gov. Ron DeSantis, Mr. Diaz is a conservative political leader worried about left-wing predisposition in college. The board will take a last vote in January.
The American Sociological Association highly items. However as a sociology teacher with substantial experience mentor general-education courses, I have compassion with the choice.
