External USB disk drive unmounts itself after an hour or two left idle

This remains in connection with the other thread I began today.

I have 2 external USB drives plugged into a Mac Mini (late 2014), running Yosemite. Among them is an SSD (SanDisk), and the other is a hard disk drive (Seagate).

After being left idle for an hour or more, the Seagate spontaneously unmounts itself. And not in a way that the OS especially likes: a message appears, informing me it was taken out without being unmounted.

Any person understand why this would occur (presuming that the drive hasn’t just gotten flaky; it remained installed simply great on a Linux box), and how it could be treated? Exists a method to remount it when this takes place, that does not include physically disconnecting it and plugging it back in?
