Following Alexander’s death, his child, Sir Kenneth Matheson, offered the estate to business owner C W Dyson Perrins in 1898. Dyson Perrins invested a number of months yearly at Ardross, with houseparty maximizing the grouse moors, fishing and deer forests. Dyson Perrins continued the modernisation efforts, in addition to setting up electrical power and buying more land in Glencalvie and Diebidale. A significant addition was the Formal Garden, developed by Edward White for the east front. A viewpoint of Edward’s style drawn by C E Mallows in 1909 was shown at the Royal Academy.
The estate was then separated and offered in 1937, with the Mardon household buying the castle, Lealty Farm and over 80 acres, living there up until 1983 when the estate was offered. In 1983, the McTaggart household obtained the estate and started to bring back the gardens consisting of the official garden, walled garden, busheses and yards.
Can you remain in Ardross Castle?
The Traitors United States host Alan Cummings exposed that not even the cast remains in the castle (they all remained in a far less attractive Inverness airport hotel) and the castle is not a hotel and spaces aren’t readily available separately. Stating that, if you employ the location as a wedding event or for a group then approximately 41 visitors can maximize the special over night lodging.
